El jugador fue trasladado de urgencia al hospital Virgen del Rocío de la capital hispalense y ha permanecido en la UCI desde entonces.

El jugador, de 22 años, se desmayó durante la primera parte del partido. Sus compañeros Palop y Drago y los servicios médicos le asistieron en el campo. El jugador se recuperó y abandonó el terreno de juego por su propio pie. Posteriormente sufrió varias paradas cardiorrespiratorias y fue trasladado de urgencias al hospital e ingresado en la UCI.
Desde el primer momento, se supo que la situación del jugador era de extrema gravedad y sólo la presencia de un desfibrilador en el Sánchez Pizjuán pudo mantenerle con vida.
El Sevilla pide el aplazamiento del partido ante el AEK
Las noticias sobre el empeoramiento de Puerta han sobrecogido a la expedición del Sevilla, que se encuentra en Atenas para disputar el partido de vuelta de clasificación para la Liga de Campeones frente al AEK. El equipo andaluz ha anunciado que va a solicitar a la UEFA que aplace el encuentro.
El presidente, José María Del Nido, abandonó el hotel de concentración del equipo en Atenas para entrevistarse con el esloveno Dane Jost, delegado de la UEFA. La idea del club, independientemente de la decisión de la UEFA, es que la delegación sevillista parta esta misma noche hacia la capital andaluza, aunque las gestiones para el traslado aún no se han formalizado.
Con ello, también queda pendiente de decisión de lo que hará el Sevilla en los próximos días, ya que el viernes tiene programada en Mónaco la final de la Supercopa de Europa ante el AC Milan italiano.
